At The Laser Lounge UK, we provide safe and effective treatments for removing unwanted pigmentation at our luxurious clinic in Stoke-on-Trent (Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire).
Uneven pigmentation and visible skin imperfections can lead to self-consciousness, while pigmented lesions such as sunspots and age spots can make the skin appear prematurely aged, negatively impacting self-confidence. This is why many individuals seek solutions like IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) therapy to achieve a brighter, more youthful appearance.
IPL therapy is highly effective for treating various forms of hyperpigmentation, including age spots, sunspots, freckles, and uneven skin tone. These pigmentation issues can result from several factors, including prolonged sun exposure, hormonal changes, aging, and skin injuries. By specifically targeting areas with excess melanin (the pigment responsible for skin colour) IPL allows for a more even and radiant complexion.
Our gold-standard, NHS-approved IPL treatment is a powerful solution for removing unwanted pigmentation from both the face and body. It enhances skin clarity and smoothness, helping to restore your confidence and reveal a more luminous complexion.
Our IPL Pigmentation Removal effectively addresses a range of skin concerns, including:
Sun Damage
Age Spots
Freckles
Beauty Spots
Port Wine Stains
Birthmarks
If you’re visiting us for the first time, don’t forget to schedule a ‘Skin Concern Consultation’ before your treatment. We look forward to helping you achieve your skincare goals!
IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) works to remove pigmentation by using broad-spectrum light to target areas of excess melanin, which is responsible for dark spots, sunspots, and age spots. During the treatment, pulses of light penetrate the skin, where the melanin in the pigment absorbs the light’s energy. This energy is converted into heat, breaking down the pigmented cells.
Immediately following treatment pigmented areas can appear darker due to the breakdown in Melanin however, this will start to fade as the body eliminates the excess melanin over the course of the next few weeks.
Following treatment the pigmented areas naturally rise to the surface and either flake off or are reabsorbed by the body, leaving the skin with a clearer, more even complexion.
IPL is a non-invasive, effective solution for reducing pigmentation and achieving smoother, more radiant skin.
IPL can be applied to various areas of the body, with popular treatments including the chest, shoulders, hands, and back, where pigmentation issues are often most visible.
IPL treatment is suitable for individuals looking to address specific concerns, such as:

Treatments tend to be more effective for individuals with Fitzpatrick Skin Types I-III (fairer skin types), due to the higher risk of post-inflammatory hypopigmentation or hyperpigmentation in darker skin tones.
Superficial pigmentation, like freckles, often require only one treatment, while pigmented birthmarks typically need 3-6 sessions for optimal clearance. Although recurrence of pigmented lesions is not uncommon, using a high-factor sunscreen, such as SPF 50, can help reduce this risk.
Accurate diagnosis of pigmented lesions is crucial before starting any treatment. Unusual lesions should always be biopsied and diagnosed by a dermatologist. Although some studies have shown success in treating melasma, the results are often temporary, and there is a risk of causing additional hyperpigmentation. Therefore, laser or IPL treatments are generally not recommended for melasma.
