At The Laser Lounge UK, we provide safe and effective treatments for removing unwanted pigmentation in Stoke-on-Trent (Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire).
Uneven pigmentation and visible skin imperfections can lead to self-consciousness, while pigmented lesions such as sunspots and age spots can make the skin appear prematurely aged, negatively impacting self-confidence. This is why many individuals seek solutions like IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) therapy to achieve a brighter, more youthful appearance.
IPL therapy is highly effective for treating various forms of hyperpigmentation, including age spots, sunspots, freckles, and uneven skin tone. These pigmentation issues can result from several factors, including prolonged sun exposure, hormonal changes, aging, and skin injuries. By specifically targeting areas with excess melanin (the pigment responsible for skin colour) IPL allows for a more even and radiant complexion.
Our gold-standard, NHS-approved IPL treatment is a powerful solution for removing unwanted pigmentation from both the face and body. It enhances skin clarity and smoothness, helping to restore your confidence and reveal a more luminous complexion.
Our IPL Pigmentation Removal effectively addresses a range of skin concerns, including:
Sun Damage
Age Spots
Freckles
Beauty Spots
Port Wine Stains
Birthmarks

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy is a safe, non-invasive treatment that effectively targets pigmentation concerns such as sunspots, age spots, freckles, and uneven skin tone.
IPL works by delivering controlled pulses of broad-spectrum light into the skin, where it is absorbed by excess melanin—the pigment responsible for dark spots. This absorption generates heat, which breaks down the pigment into smaller particles that are then naturally eliminated by the body’s lymphatic system.
As the treated pigment rises to the surface and flakes away over time, the skin becomes visibly clearer and more even in tone. IPL not only fades unwanted pigmentation but also helps to suppress future melanin production, reducing the likelihood of new dark spots forming. In addition, the light energy stimulates collagen production, which supports overall skin health and improves texture, resulting in a smoother, more radiant complexion.
With a series of sessions, IPL can significantly reduce the appearance of pigmentation and restore a more youthful, balanced skin tone. It's a proven solution for sun-damaged skin, hyperpigmentation, and uneven complexion

IPL skin treatments using the Lynton Excelight system are suitable for a variety of skin concerns, including Acne, Rosacea, Thread Veins, Pigmentation and Fine Lines and Wrinkles. Most Skin Types can benefit from IPL, but suitability depends on factors such as your specific skin type, tone, and concern. During your consultation, our experienced practitioner will assess your skin and medical history to determine if IPL is the right treatment for you. While IPL is highly effective for many, it may not be suitable for darker skin tones or certain conditions, so a personalised assessment is essential to ensure safe and effective results.
The number of treatments you require depends on the type of treatment you choose. Recommended number of sessions are as follows:
Pigmentation = 1-3 sessions
Immediately after IPL skin treatment, it is normal for your skin to appear slightly red, similar to a mild sunburn, and feel warm to the touch. Some clients may also experience mild swelling, particularly in more sensitive areas, which usually subsides within a few hours. When treating pigmentation concerns, the targeted spots may temporarily darken before flaking off over the next few weeks as the skin heals. Your skin may also feel slightly dry or sensitive, so it’s important to keep it moisturised and protected.
To ensure the best results, avoid direct sun exposure, use SPF 30 or higher, and steer clear of harsh skincare products like retinoids or exfoliants for at least 48 hours. These effects are temporary, and your skin will gradually settle, revealing a clearer, more radiant complexion in the following weeks.
Pigmentated lesions that can be effectively treated by IPL include: Sun Spots, Age Spots / Liver Spots, Freckles, Beauty Spots & Birthmarks.
Skin conditions such as Melasma cannot be treated with IPL. IPL pigment removal can only be performed on those with a Fitzpatrick Skin Type 1 - 4.
We do not recommend laser or IPL treatments if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. While there is no conclusive evidence to suggest that these treatments are harmful during pregnancy or breastfeeding, the hormonal changes in your body can make your skin more sensitive and prone to adverse reactions, such as irritation or pigmentation changes.
For your safety and the safety of your baby, it is best to wait until after pregnancy and breastfeeding before starting laser or IPL treatments. We encourage you to book a consultation after this period to discuss your options and create a treatment plan tailored to your needs.
To maintain your pigmentation treatment results at home, it’s crucial to use the right medical-grade skincare products tailored to your skin type and the specific causes of your pigmentation. Pigmentation can be triggered by factors such as sun exposure, hormonal changes, or inflammation. During your consultation, our Skin Therapist will thoroughly assess your skin and recommend the most effective products for your needs.
Commonly prescribed ingredients for treating pigmentation include Tretinoin, which accelerates cell turnover and reduces discoloration, and Hydroquinone, known for its powerful skin-lightening properties. Other medical-grade options may include Azelaic Acid, Tranexamic Acid, and Retinoids, which help to fade dark spots and even out the skin tone. We always recommend that you wear sunscreen, minimum of SPF 30, daily.
IPL pigmentation removal is a long-lasting solution to removing unwanted pigmentation on the skin. Pigmented lesions are permanently removed during treatment.
IPL treats existing pigmentation however, it does not prevent new pigmentation from occurring, this is why it's important to follow the correct aftercare.
Due to Lynton's Advanced Technology our IPL treatments are relatively pain-free. No anaesthesia is required, however we do apply a cool gel to help maintain comfort. People often describe the sensation like the flick on an elastic band. We are able to change our machine settings at any point so that the treatment feels right for you.
